English language skills can be a great advantage
in Mexico and people are keen to learn the
language and have the opportunity to practice
speaking the language.
Experience Mexico works with several state
run schools, in various locations from towns
to very remote villages, who truly appreciate
volunteers teaching English to all ages of
students.
The
project offers:
- A variety of beautiful settings
- An allocation of funding to help you
with your teaching
- The opportunity to make a true difference
to a range of students
The project involves:
- Planning and preparing your lessons
- Taking lessons with students of a range
of ages
- The opportunity to get involved with
other lessons
Teaching will be week days and hours will
depend on the wishes of the schools and your
own wishes. The schools Experience Mexico
works with are all open Monday to Friday from
8am to 1pm. Weekends will be available for
travelling and any paperwork and preparation.
Experience Mexico works with eight schools,
both primary and secondary, all close to Rincon
de Guayabitos. Teachers at six of the schools
will be provided with accommodation at Hotel
Peñamar, while those based in Altavista,
only one hour from Rincon de Guayabitos, will
be staying with a family there, though will
be welcome to stay at the Hotel during the
weekends.
The schools we work with are:
- Primaria in Rincon de Guayabitos
- Telesecundaria in Rincon de Guayabitos
- Primaria in La Peñita de Jaltemba
- Telesecundaria in La Colonia
- Primaria in Ursulo Galvan
- Telesecundaria in Ursulo Galvan
- Primaria in Altavisata
- Telesecundaria in Altavista
Ursulo Galvan, Rincon de Guayabitos and La
Peñita de Jaltemba are located on the
coast in the Bay of Jaltemba, a beautiful
bay on the Pacific coast just north of Puerto
Vallarta and the Bahia de Banderas. Rincon
de Guayabitos is a Mexican holiday town and
has a beautiful tourist beach. Ursulo Galvan
is located ten minutes south of Guayabitos,
a small traditional coast town. La Peñita
de Jaltemba is the next town north up the
coast from Guayabitos and has a wider range
of small shops as well as a small weekly market.
La Colonia is the next town up the coast and
does not even have its own church, but at
the north end of the town is the beautiful
unspoilt beach of El Naranjo, one of the beaches
patrolled by those working on the Turtle projects
and often isolated. Altavista is a beautiful
small town further inland with incredible
views and people – Experience Mexico
were the first organisation to send English
teachers to this town.

The areas where the schools are located
provide for a variety of opportunities including
cycling, horseback riding, swimming and walking,
depending on where you are located. Communication
access and transportation will also depend
on where you are placed but all volunteers
can use the Hotel Peñamar as a postal
address, to leave telephone messages and Vicente
will visit all volunteers regularly.
Volunteers will generally be teaching on
their own, though teaching in pairs is a possibility.
Accommodation may be shared with other volunteers
or with a Mexican family, depending on where
volunteers are placed.
Teachers are required all year round, with
the exception of July and August, when the
schools in Mexico are on vacation. Experience
Mexico preferred applicants to be able to
commit to this project for at least three
months to offer the students stability in
their studies.
Preferred project dates:
- Mid Setember to mid December
- Early January to early April
- End of April to beginning of July
- These dates relate to the periods the
schools in Mexico are open - allowing for
them being closed for Christmas, Easter
and summer breaks and the dates may change
slightly depending on the term dates.
Cost:
- £2500 for three months
- Additional months available,
please contact us for details.
- As usual costs include flight, travel
insurance, accommodation, food allowance
and support and advice both in the UK and
from our Mexican representative during your
time in Mexico.
